Postcards from Space

My students created postcards from Space as one of their last projects in Science.  They got to pick a topic of their choice and had to incorporate facts that they learned in a postcard letter.  This project could be used for any subject.  I created a new postcard template that you can download to use in your own class.  They had a rubric that included points for front cover, letter with facts, correct address and a stamp.  I encourage creativity!

Favorite Science Unit of the Year

The results are in....

For the last week of science homework,  I had my two science classes pick their favorite science unit/activity and give evidence to support their choice.  I was not surprised at the results. (simple machines and engineering was also our last unit)

The Totals:
engineering 28
plants and animals 11
weather 4
space 2
matter 2

"My favorite unit was very hard to choose because Mrs. Hall is such a good teacher.  But I did love the engineering unit.  I liked engineering because each partnership had different designs.  I liked testing the models to see what worked and what didn't."

The Regulars are Coming!

We still are in school and  I am jealous of all the bloggers and teachers who are already enjoying their summer vacation.  Our last day is June 23.

We went on our first fifth grade field trip last week.  We visited many sites on the famous Freedom Trail. Going on trips like this makes me appreciate living in this historic state.

We learned many new things from our tour guide.  The number one lesson that I learned from this trip is that I need to teach my students how to walk on city sidewalks and cross the streets.  We live in the suburbs and this was a first city trip for many.

I had to get a Selfie!!!
