Got Read Aloud?

What books do you use for read aloud?
I am new to fourth grade and have been discovering so many great titles this year.  I have been modeling independent reading and reading aloud daily.

Here is what is happening in Room 210...
I am reading Punished.  The story is about a boy who gets punished and has a spell put on him.  The boy needs to collect special words to break the spell.  The book discusses puns, oxymorons, anagrams, palindromes and onomatopoeia.  It is a short chapter book, a very quick read.

Here is a book that I just finished reading to my after school students.  This is a great story of friendship and perseverance.  Kate uses rich language and vocabulary.  At the end of every chapter, my students were begging for more.  I would highly recommend it...a tear jerker!

  1. Another great read aloud for 4th grade that I used every year is "Sideways Stories from Wayside School" by Louis Sachar. My kidos loved it every year!!

  2. I love "Wayside School" and read it last year to my third graders. I just read "Holes" by the same author Louis Sachar...I am going to show them the movie next week after our state testing.

  4. Hi Kelly:

Thanks for the book recommendations. I've never read either of them, but I have heard of them both. Looks like I have some reading choices for Spring Break!

  5. Hey Kelly,

I love and read Sideway Stories from Wayside School to
my kids starting the first day of school. I just found my new favorite read aloud, The Fabled Fourth Graders of Aseop Elementary School by Candace Fleming. Each chapter has a moral that the class learns the hard way. If you like Sideway Stories then you will LOVE this book...my class absolutely does!!!
