Many Luscious Lollipops- Adjectives

We read the book Many Luscious Lollipops and I had the children write two sentences about candy using three or more adjectives.  I cut the lollipop out below and printed two on one sheet of oaktag(I did not use the stick).  The kids created a front and back.  We added glitter, cellophane and ribbon.  They look great hanging in the room.

Show Don't Tell Mini-Lesson- Razzle Dazzle

I taught a few mini-lessons from Razzle Dazzle Writing last week.    The book is kid and teacher friendly and contains many printables.   I have never been so excited to teach writing!
One of the lessons we did was "Show, Don't Tell."  I projected the following page on the board.  We read and discussed their examples.

Here are samples of the paragraphs my children wrote:

Geometry Wikki Stix Posters

Today we created Geometry Vocabulary Posters to review all of our terms.  We used Wikki Stix to model each word.  They had so much fun.  The biggest challenge was folding the paper into 12 boxes! I created these last year using toothpicks and glue and found this easier.

Writing Lessons- Razzle Dazzle Writing

I just sat down and finally looked at this book I purchased at the beginning of school, Razzle Dazzle Writing.  I had seen it on a few blogs and all over Pinterest.

I will be using many of the mini-lessons during my writing block.  The pages are teacher and kid friendly.  Next week I am planning "Word Picture Poems " and "Show Don't Tell."  Writing has been difficult to fit in my schedule and this book will help. I do Daily 5 and the children write daily.  I am using my whole literacy block on Fridays for writing  essays.   I will post more next week.  The book is worth every penny!

My Favorite Season (Freebie)

We completed a persuasive/opinion piece of writing on "Our Favorite Season."  We read several anchor texts modeling the the elements of this genre.  They included:
The children had to pick their favorite season and come up with reasons to support their topics.  We used a graphic organizer before we began writing.   They wrote five paragraphs; intro, 3 paragraphs with reasons and a closing.

Here is the sheet I used for publishing:

PINTERESTing! Solar System

I have decided to change my Friday Favorite Pins to PINTERESTing!  I have so many pins that I want to go through my own boards and repin topics.  The Friday pins will be related to a topic.  I will search my own boards.  I am working on the Solar System and rediscovered many great pins.
