I have spent many days getting ready for Back to School. I have been busy cleaning out closets, cabinets, bins, etc. I have weeded out so much. My room is coming along nicely. Pictures to come soon!!!
My biggest project has been my teaching files.
Last year was a Common Core Nightmare!!!! We adopted all new curriculum and dropped all programs and I was pulling resources from everywhere. After year one, I need to develop a way to keep my materials easy to access, find and refile. I am going to use this idea from secondgradeparadise.blogspot.com. and organize my files by the standards. I am also going to record the units, trade books, games, etc. that might be used to teach and reinforce the standard on the folder.
Here is another idea for storing "I can" Standard Cards from yearn4learning.blogspot.com. that I will use for my cards.
I created bins in my storage closet for games, trade books, task cards and special materials. I hate finding materials after you have taught a skill!!!!
Here are the bins that I have so far:
*synonyms, antonyms and homophones
*vocabulary, prefixes, suffixes
*grammar and punctuation
*spelling
*number sense
*multiplication and division
*fractions and decimals
*measurement
We are implementing Common Core this year. I'm going to try and use the file idea.

I organize by skill like you have listed not by number indicator. I started organizing my indicator number when I first started, but that is two curriculums ago!

I'm aligning all of my units to common core too. What units do you do with your kids for ela?
ReplyDeleteWhat is the link to print off the "I can statements" on each of your file folder? I found it the other day but forgot to bookmark it:) Thank you:)
ReplyDeleteI don't have any " I Can Statements" linked. Search on TPT. I grabbed some from there. I actually have tweaked the folders and hace a folder for each math unit with the standards pasted on the front. They are easier than using binders.
DeleteHere is what my folders look like now:
