Fact Fluency Test Organization

I finally found an easy way to store my math fluency tests!!! (after 24 years) I bought plastic pocket folders and put two facts tests on each side.  I can quickly unfold them and can stack them back up for storage.  I have my students get their own tests which saves a lot of time.  They have a log-in sheet in their math notebook.  I also have fact flash cards in envelopes with each fact so they can practice.  My fifth graders still have some work to do but we are making great progress!!!

5th Grade Math Interactive Notebook

It covers all fifth grade domains: Number Sense:Whole Numbers and Decimals, Multiplication and Division, Fractions, Measurement, Geometry and Volume, and Data.  The domains have been broken down into smaller topics to fit into your curriculum.  We use Go Math in my district and this supplements my lessons.  I have many ELL and Inclusion students in my classes and find note booking a necessity.  I have been using notebooks for four years and find them a great resource for all my learners.  I made one resource that will make my own lesson planning easier!  

If you don't use notebooks, the pages can be used with your lessons.  Many of the pages can be printed in color on cardstock, laminated and used as posters to display in classroom.  I hang them up as another reference for my students.

I moved to fifth grade last year and started teaching only math and science.  I have over 20 years of experience in third and fourth grade.  Focusing on two subjects will allow me time to become more knowledgeable about content and I plan to create more resources in these areas.  I am starting to work on science notebook units.

I will blog and post more details about my math notebooks during the school year.  My photos are a mock sample that I quickly put together.  I plan to take more photos of my students work as we create our books this year.

Mathematical Monday: Exponent Foldable

Things have been crazy with the start of school and I feel like I'm starting to get a handle on everything.  I am a day late with my math post…better late than never.  I keep forgetting to take pictures of my students' notebooks but I will post the one I made.

I found a great example of making an accordion foldable for expanded form numbers.  I used a sentence strip and showed my class.  They loved it and wanted to make one.  I decided to make the accordion foldable to show exponents for the notebooks.

Second Grade Shenanigans

My most popular post to this date is my Power Tower multiplication game.  I made my back in the fall of 2011 and I'm still using them.  I got the idea from http://mrsgilchristsclass.blogspot.com.  The kids do not get tired of this game.  The answers are on the inside for self-checking.

Two New Multiplication Games and a Store

 I am very excited to announce that I just opened a Teachers Pay Teachers Store.  I have been very apprehensive and finally got up the nerve.  I only have two products listed but I would love for you to check them out.  I am currently working on some new ideas.

 Here is one of my new products...

I printed the pieces, wrote the products on the bottom, and laminated.  I use the disposable plastic containers to store my centers.  I bought the spatulas at the dollar store.  This is a station that I set up during Guided Math.  They love to use them!

Here is my other math game...

I printed out the game pieces and boards and then laminated them.  The X's and O's are from Target in the dollar section.  Any game piece, seasonal erasers, or dry erase markers could be used to mark the board.  The children now enjoy practicing their facts!

A Few More Projects...Made It Monday

The kids begin school on Wednesday and I have been working on a few more things this week-end.  

Once school starts the focus will switch to my new curriculum.

Multiplication VIP Party

As an incentive to learn Multiplication Facts I gave each of my students a VIP pass the first week of school.  As students passed their facts, they earned a star to cover each factor.  I had them complete up to the 12's.  Some students completed their Extreme VIP's.  (which included three factors)

All of my students passed their facts in April, but I saved the Rock Star Party for the last week of school.  The kids lined up in the hall with their VIP passes and entered the room.  It is hard to believe that not a single one was lost!  The dressed up in their Rock Star outfits despite the fact that it was 98 degrees... and no AC.  They all had a blast!
