Help!!! Where did I put that Common Core Resource???

I have spent many days getting ready for Back to School.  I have been busy cleaning out closets, cabinets, bins, etc.  I have weeded out so much.  My room is coming along nicely.  Pictures to come soon!!!

My biggest project has been my teaching files.

Last year was a Common Core Nightmare!!!! We adopted all new curriculum and dropped all programs and I was pulling resources from everywhere.  After  year one, I need to develop a way to keep my materials easy to access, find and refile.  I am going to use this idea from secondgradeparadise.blogspot.com.  and organize my files by the standards.  I am also going to record  the units, trade books, games, etc. that might be used to teach and reinforce the standard on the folder.

Here is another idea for storing "I can" Standard Cards from yearn4learning.blogspot.com. that I will use for my cards.

I created bins in my storage closet for games, trade books, task cards and special materials.  I hate finding materials after you have taught a skill!!!!

Here are the bins that I have so far:
*synonyms, antonyms and homophones
*vocabulary, prefixes, suffixes
*grammar and punctuation
*spelling
*number sense
*multiplication and division
*fractions and decimals
*measurement

I'm Baaacccckkkk!!!!

This year has been a year of many changes and I needed to take something off of my heaping plate and unfortunately it was my blogging.  I just sat down this morning and caught up reading many posts and it just gave me the motivation that I need to get back into the swing of things.

The year was very challenging and now it is time to do some reflecting and make next year better!!!  I am going to look closely at our new curriculum and the common core.  It was very overwhelming.  This summer I need to organize my materials and resources.  I bought my first Erin Condren Planner.  I can't wait to start using it.  I think this will help my become more organized and keep all my data in one spot.
My plan is to simplify my school and personal life.  Now to make it happen!!!!

Diving into Decimals

After our unit on Fractions,   Decimals is going smoothly.  We are working on writing, comparing, ordering, adding/subtracting and converting decimals.  I need to create a few new center activities(maybe next year) .  We are getting ready for our state MCAS test next week.

We use Everyday Math as a resource to the Common Core.
A student woking independently

We use "Guided Math" two times a week.  The children work with a teacher, work independently and then do games/fact practice.

Games during "Guided Math", playing Decimal War

Using slates to practice decimal skills.

This summer I plan on organzing my math materials, resources and games to align with the Common Core Domains and Standards.  I plan on organizing with binders or files.  I have purchased many great TPT items but need to have them more accessible.  (I will be stocking up on cardstock and ink!!!)

How do keep your math materials and resources organized?

Author's Purpose- PIE

I have blogged about Author's Purpose a couple of times.  I recently did a lesson that my kids loved.  I saw this on Pinterest.  I have been saving extra book order forms for a few months.  The children quickly figured out the Persuade would be books with toys or sale items and coupons!
